About

The work around the software matters.

I’m a staff engineer and engineering leader based in the Netherlands. My work spans applied AI, developer experience, international platforms, and independent products.

Portrait of Suat Erken

I do my best work when the technical path is uncertain and the team still needs a dependable result.

I’ve grown an EMEA engineering organisation, delivered international commerce platforms, introduced AI-enabled engineering practices, and built products where I own the path from architecture to operations. I still spend time in implementation; technical direction is stronger when it stays connected to the code and the people shipping it.

I start by making the constraints and risks explicit. Then I instrument the result and let evidence change the plan.

Working principles

01

Evidence over claims

I test new tools on bounded, observable work. Trust comes from repeatable results and known failure modes.

02

Design beyond the code

A design is incomplete if it ignores ownership, release practice, team incentives, or the cost of changing it later.

03

Make the good path easy

Standards matter only when teams can apply them during ordinary delivery, without depending on a few people to rescue the work.

Experience

From enterprise systems to global platforms.

Beyond the work

Applied AI research

I test coding-agent workflows, open-weight models, and multimodal tools against real product constraints.

Product craft

I enjoy the point where architecture, interaction design, user feedback, and the details of shipping meet.

Web performance

I treat speed, resilience, and accessibility as product qualities, not launch-day checks.

Chess

I play for the pattern recognition, the trade-offs, and the discipline of looking beyond the obvious move.

Table tennis

I enjoy the fast feedback, small adjustments, and consistency the game rewards.

Swimming

My preferred way to step away from a screen and reset my attention.

Football

A lifelong interest in the game, especially the movement and decisions away from the ball.
